What's the difference?
Last week I went along to hear David Riddell of World Team speak on Church Planting Movements.
He shared these definitions that clarify the difference between starting a church and fueling a church planting movement.
Addition: Starting another new church.
Reproduction: When a church plants a new church.
Multiplication: When a reproduced church reproduces.
Movement: When church reproduction becomes the norm—spontaneous expansion of new churches.
I know of two different churches that are starting congregations in new areas. One church has the expectation that the new congregation will graduate to maturity and interdependence by becoming a multiplying hub. The other church requires the new congregation to sign an agreement that they will not plant another church.
