Direct or Relational?

Direct-Relational Scheuer.jpg

Here's a grid Tim Scheuer has developed to explain his "direct and relational" approach to evangelism.

This is an important corrective to our tendency to pit "sharing the gospel" and "loving people" against each other.

Remember Jesus was constantly on the move, meeting new people, entering new towns and cities. He didn't have the luxury of long term relationships. There were 175 towns and villages in Galilee. Luke tells us that Jesus visited all of them.

Missional means movement.

The disciples he trained followed his example. When they didn't, he unsettled them.

Jesus refused to choose between being direct and being relational. He was both.
