Leaving the comfort zone

I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.

Paul

I’m in west Africa. A week in Nigeria. A week in Liberia.

It’s always good to leave the comforts of life in Australia and step outside my comfort zone into the world in which most people live. Traffic, dust, garbage. A stranger in a strange lands.

My education was further enhanced by some confusion over schedules and delayed flights. Nothing like finding yourself in a distant land, late at night, without local currency, your host is not at the airport, your phone won’t work and your credit cards are of no use.

Of course all this is nothing compared to what travelers faced in the ancient world.

We Westerners may be the most educated, wealthy generation in history, but the spread of God’s word is not bound to our resources. It is totally reliant on the power and wisdom of God who chooses the weak things of this world to shame our strength.
