7 minute discipleship
I got talking to Bruce who teaches at Tabor College Adelaide. He's my lift each morning.
So what does discipleship look like?
I explained during a seven minute journey from the hotel to the campus.
I told him this story:
Jesus went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 3 and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod's household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.
While Bruce drove, I got him to retell the story in his own words.
Next we talked.
- What you like?
- What does the story teach us about God, or about Jesus who shows us what God is like?
- What do we learn about the people in the story?
- Is there an example to follow or a command to obey?
- What do you need to do to this week in response?
- With whom will you share this story?
- Let's pray for each other.
The ride was seven minutes, plus another seven minutes for Bruce to apply his display his barista dexterity. (He made me a cup coffee.)
Discipleship in fifteen minutes. Simple but profound. The same pattern in discipling people to conversion, The same pattern in discipling new believers. The same pattern in discipling workers.
One simple, but profound pattern. The scriptures adding an infinite variety of material.
The prime directive—go make disciples. Baptize them. Teach them to obey everything Jesus has commanded.
What's stopping you?
